The N.Y. Islanders are now 1-0-0, their best start since the 2012-13 season, with their only loss coming on the road to the Florida Panthers.
They’re also the only team that has beaten the Capitals in their last three meetings, winning 5-2 in overtime in Game 5 in 2016 and 5-1 in overtime at Madison Square Garden in 2017.
The Islanders have now won four straight regular-season games for the first time since November 2017.
The first was a 4-2 victory in New Jersey on March 13, 2017.
This time, they’ll play in the Metropolitan Division finals against the Tampa Bay Lightning on Tuesday night.
The Lightning are 3-0 against the Islanders this season, including a 3-1 win in Game 4 of the Islanders’ Eastern Conference quarterfinals on Saturday.

They’ll play their final four games in their own building, at Barclays Center.
The team will open the playoffs against the Philadelphia Flyers.
They were 0-1-0 when playing at home this season.
The Isles are 3rd in the Eastern Conference and have the best record in the league.
The Isles have won seven of their past eight games.
The New York Rangers are 1-4-0 and have been outscored by an average of 14.1 points during their four-game skid.
The Rangers will play the New Jersey Devils on Tuesday in Game 1 of their second-round series.
